About
Founded in 2011, Geoelec is a ngo specializing in Geothermal.
Geoelec was an EU-funded project that created a geographical information system for assessing geothermal electricity potential across Europe. The project aimed to double installed geothermal power capacity in Europe by 2020, with objectives to increase generation from 11 TWh per year in 2010 to 55 TWh by 2020. The project produced comprehensive action plans addressing financial feasibility, regulatory frameworks, and public acceptance. It organized training courses for public authorities, financial sector professionals, and geothermal specialists in multiple European cities (Strasbourg, Potsdam, Pisa). The website now serves as an ongoing hub for geothermal electricity information, publications, and resources, updated by the European Technology and Innovation Platform on Deep Geothermal.
