GLAMOUR is a European Horizon2020 research project that began on 1 May 2020. It aims to design, scale-up, and validate an integrated process converting bio-based waste feedstock, particularly crude glycerol, into aviation and marine diesel fuels. The process combines high-pressure auto-thermal reforming/gasification using chemical looping to produce syngas with a compact Fischer-Tropsch reactor integrated with 3D printed structured catalyst. The project targets full conversion of crude glycerol into synthetic paraffinic kerosene (jet fuel) and marine diesel oil with 65% energy efficiency. Expected outcomes include reducing biomass-to-liquid production costs by up to 35% and CO2 emissions by up to 70%. Long-term potential includes unlocking low-cost feedstock with 65% cost reduction, increasing bio-jet fuel production to support 19% of EU passengers, and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 27 Mt/year.
