GreeNest is a European research project launched in January 2024 (concluding December 2027) comprising 20 partners focused on creating and validating zero-emission building ecosystems. The project pioneers sustainable building practices by integrating CO2-neutral materials, renewable energy sources, and circular construction methods. It demonstrates solutions across four European demo sites and two virtual buildings, targeting embodied and operational emission reductions. Core initiatives include developing 17 standardized packages using recycled, waste, and nature-based materials; advancing innovative systems like KA-RZ (coffee-ground insulation); and supporting the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. Funded by the European Union (€4,996,642) and Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation.
