Founded in 2020, Higfly is a private headquartered in Netherlands specializing in Biomass, Hydrogen.

Higfly is an EU-funded research and development initiative under Horizon 2020 (grant agreement No 101006618) dedicated to developing advanced catalytic materials and technologies for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production from abundant, second-generation biomass feedstocks. The project encompasses the complete value chain from bio-feedstock sourcing through biofuel production, with a particular focus on novel catalytic pathways including aqueous phase reforming for hydrogen production and hydrodeoxygenation of condensed intermediates. Core achievements include demonstrating a catalyst system yielding 64% cyclopentanone from furfuryl alcohol, a scalable route to bio-based jet fuels. The consortium comprises 9 partners from 4 countries, including leading research institutes (TNO, Fraunhofer UMSICHT, Eindhoven University of Technology) and industry stakeholders, covering expertise across material technology development, biorefining, and sustainable aviation fuel production.
