Founded in 2022, HyFuelUp is a ngo specializing in Biogas, Hydrogen.

HyFuelUp is a demonstration project funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme. It focuses on validating an innovative, competitive, and clean biomethane production pathway using gasification and methanation technologies combined with renewable hydrogen. The project integrates a SEG (Sorption-Enhanced Gasification) and Oxy-SEG process to convert biowaste into syngas with high hydrogen content and CO2-rich flue gas suitable for catalytic methanation. The demonstration site is located in Tondela, Portugal. The biomethane produced will be liquified for use in decarbonizing long-distance road freight transport and maritime transportation. The project aims to establish a first-of-its-kind value chain for biomethane production using low-grade biomass residues and anaerobic digestion plant sludge digestate, contributing to Europe's renewable gas capacity and supporting the EU's target of 35 billion cubic metres of biomethane production annually by 2030.
