About
Founded in 2020, Hyship is a ngo specializing in Hydrogen.
Hyship is a consortium of 14 European partners funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme (EUR 8 million) through the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. The project focuses on designing and constructing a zero-emission ro-ro vessel named Topeka powered by a 3MW PEM hydrogen fuel cell combined with 1,000 kWh battery capacity. The vessel will be operated by Wilhelmsen and carry both containerized liquid hydrogen (LH2) and customer cargo along Norway's west coast, establishing bunkering hubs for hydrogen-powered ferries and seagoing vessels. The project includes three replicator studies: a 1MW inland tanker barge, a 3MW fast ferry, and a 20MW deepsea capesize bulk carrier system. LH2 will be sourced from a production plant at Mongstad near Bergen (partnership of BKK, Equinor, and Air Liquide). The vessel is planned for operational deployment in 2024.
