IG Windkraft is the interest representation body for Austria's wind energy industry. The organization represents around 180 regionally-based, primarily medium-sized companies operating across the entire wind energy value chain, from manufacturing and planning to construction, operation, and maintenance. The Austrian wind sector employs approximately 8,000-9,000 people and generated an average of 1.2 billion euros annually over the past decade. Austria currently has 1,447 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 4,221 MW, producing 9.7 TWh annually and powering approximately 2.7 million households (around 16% of Austrian electricity consumption). Wind energy avoids approximately 4.8 million tonnes of CO2 annually. IG Windkraft conducts advocacy, public information campaigns, operates a job board, publishes the quarterly journal 'windenergie', organizes industry events and seminars, and provides technical expertise on wind energy policy and market development. The organization is internationally networked through WindEurope and EREF.
