INCOVER was a three-year collaborative research project funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 (grant agreement 689242), coordinated by AIMEN and involving 20+ research institutions, technology providers, and utilities. The project designed and demonstrated three integrated solutions for resource recovery from wastewater: (1) bio-production via microalgae/bacteria and yeast biotechnology for high-value products like bioplastics and organic acids; (2) near-zero-energy biogas production via anaerobic co-digestion; (3) chemical recovery and reclaimed water via adsorption, wetland biotechnology, and hydrothermal carbonization. Three full-scale demonstration plants were implemented across Europe, achieving Technology Readiness Level 7-8. The project concluded in July 2019, with an estimated turnover of 188 million EUR expected from implementing 27 INCOVER solutions over 5 years.
