INVADE is a major European research and innovation initiative funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No 731148) with a budget of 16 million euros. The project demonstrates how existing technologies and solutions can be connected in new ways to address electricity system challenges posed by renewable energy integration and electric vehicle adoption. The integrated INVADE platform brings flexibility and storage technology to end-users through five pilot sites across Europe. Key developments include successful algorithms for controlling electric vehicle charging speeds at scale (tested on 700 public charging stations), and market structure models for platform-based business models. The project involves research institutions, utilities, energy companies, and charging infrastructure providers across multiple European countries.
