About

Founded in 2013, Leanwind is a ngo specializing in Wind.

Leanwind is a four-year EU-funded project (2013-2017) led by a 31-partner consortium with a total budget of 15 million euros (10 million from European Commission). The project applies lean manufacturing principles to offshore wind farm development, installation, operations and maintenance, and decommissioning phases. Key initiatives include designing novel installation and maintenance vessels, developing condition monitoring and diagnostic software for offshore wind turbines, optimizing port logistics and supply chain processes, and creating innovative substructure designs for fixed and floating offshore wind platforms. The project demonstrates cost reduction strategies through offshore trials, simulation-based validation, and comprehensive lifecycle analysis, addressing challenges in far-shore, deep-water, and exposed offshore locations.
