Life Landfill Biofuel is a European Union-funded project (LIFE18 ENV/ES/000256) led by FCC that demonstrates the production of biomethane from landfill biogas as a sustainable alternative fuel for vehicles. The project captures emissions from organic matter decomposition in landfills, purifies the biogas through innovative vacuum swing adsorption technology, and converts it to biomethane. The pre-industrial demonstration plant processes 378 m³/h of biogas to produce 200 m³/h of biomethane for use in waste collection trucks and vehicles. The four-year project involves a consortium of six partner organizations from Spain and Portugal and is designed to be replicated across other European landfills. EU funding covers 55% of the €4.67 million budget.
