About
Founded in 2017, Lifecab is a private headquartered in Torino, Italy specializing in Biogas, Biomass.
Lifecab is a demonstration project (TRL 7) running from July 2017 to June 2020, co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme (LIFE16 ENV/IT/000179). It validates a novel process developed by the University of Turin to treat municipal biowaste (MBW) and produce soluble biorganic substances (SBO) through chemical hydrolysis. These SBO additives are used in anaerobic fermentation reactors to control ammonia content in digestate while maintaining biogas production. The project operates a 50 t/year hydrolysis prototype facility integrated into ACEA Pinerolese's existing biowaste treatment plant in Pinerolo, Italy, which processes 60,000 tonnes/year of MBW, produces 6 million m³ biogas annually, and supplies heat and electricity to approximately 5,700 homes and 2,500 residences. The project demonstrates replicability across Italy, Greece, and Cyprus through partnerships with municipal utilities, research institutions, and private companies.
