About
Founded in 2010, Lillebælt Syd is a private headquartered in Sønderborg, Denmark specializing in Wind.
Lillebælt Syd Vindmøllepark is a coastal offshore wind farm project located in the Little Belt (Lillebælt) strait between Als and Helnæs in Denmark. The project comprises 11 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, for a total installed capacity of 165 MW. The wind farm is positioned approximately 3 km northeast of Als and 6 km from Helnæs. The project was initiated in 2010 by local stakeholders and ProjectZero in Sønderborg. It was designated by the Danish state in 2012 as one of 16 suitable areas for development of coastal wind projects. The project is owned by TotalEnergies (majority shareholder since 2024), SONFOR (Sønderborg's municipal utility company), and European Energy. Environmental impact assessments were approved by the Danish Energy Agency (Energistyrelsen) and Environment Agency in 2024, with construction authorization granted in November 2024. The project includes onshore infrastructure comprising underground cable routes, transformer stations, and connection to the national transmission grid. Expected to become operational in 2029, the wind farm will generate electricity at market price without state subsidies. Extensive geophysical surveys of seabed conditions, geotechnical boring, and environmental monitoring have been conducted. A local ownership scheme allows residents within 16 km of the installation site to purchase shares (up to 20% of the project). The project supports Denmark's renewable energy transition and contributes to regional energy security.
