About

Founded in 2023, Local4Local is a co-op headquartered in Netherlands, Netherlands with approximately 50-200 employees specializing in Solar, Wind, Energy Storage.

Local4Local is an innovative cooperative model for integrated, sustainable collective energy supply with minimal grid impact. The system enables energy communities—comprised of citizens, businesses, local authorities, and social housing providers—to democratically govern their energy systems. Members receive stable, fair pricing based on production costs without profit margins. The project, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Climate and Green Growth's Topsector Energy, develops solutions for local renewable energy distribution, demand synchronization through automation and behavioral incentives, and coupled heating-electricity systems. Seven pilot energy communities test the model, with the goal of serving 20,000+ participants by end of 2025. Participating organizations include Windunie, Deltawind, Energie Samen, Zuidenwind, Grunneger Power, Agem Energie Experts, Zonnedorpen, Energie VanOns, Resourcefully, ZenMo, and ENTRNCE. The successor program watt2watt continues development of smart local energy sharing.
