LocalRES is a European research and innovation project funded under Horizon2020 (Grant Agreement 957819) focused on deploying innovative local energy systems driven by Renewable Energy Communities. The project aims to integrate EU top-down energy and climate policy with bottom-up community engagement to achieve local decarbonisation. LocalRES develops and demonstrates digital tools including a planning tool for citizen participation in REC planning and a Multi-Energy Virtual Power Plant approach to optimize energy vectors and flexibility services. The project operates demonstration sites across Europe (Ispaster, Kökar, Osimo, Ollersdorf, Berchidda) and works toward enabling prosumers to trade energy volumes within local communities, establishing multidirectional energy flows, and promoting REC-driven energy services.
