Lübesse Energie GmbH was founded in 2019 as a project company to develop and implement the Lübesse Energy Factory (Energiefabrik Lübesse), a decentralized energy conversion facility. The facility uses electrolysis to convert renewable wind and solar power into hydrogen and synthetic methane via methanation, enabling energy storage and production of regenerative fuels (green LNG). Waste heat from conversion processes supports district heating for the locality. The project involves two decommissioned wind turbines producing approximately 4.5 GWh annually, combined with photovoltaic installations and biogas facilities. The 4 MW electrolyzer facility received environmental approval in November 2021. Construction timelines have experienced multiple delays due to technology partner insolvency (2022), cost pressures, and unfavorable biomethane quota prices since 2023. The project currently rests pending improved economic conditions. The company also planned a district heating network in partnership with Hansewerk-Gruppe, which is also suspended due to insufficient customer uptake and regulatory pricing constraints.
