Maesha is a comprehensive energy transition initiative designed to demonstrate decarbonization solutions on European islands, particularly Mayotte. The project pools flexible renewable energy resources and storage through a Flexibility Management Platform to address grid stability, imbalances, and energy independence. It encompasses modular ICT systems integrating electric vehicle charging infrastructure with advanced demand response capabilities. The project involves two universities, ten SMEs, three industrial partners, and six public organizations collaborating across five pilot islands to develop replicable energy transition models. Solutions include solar photovoltaic systems, smart grid technologies, energy efficiency measures, electric vehicle charging networks with vehicle-to-grid capabilities, and blockchain-based transaction management. The initiative aims to reduce island dependency on imported fossil fuels and achieve sustainable energy autonomy through decentralized energy management, data science optimization, and community engagement.
