Unlike conventional pellets produced from sawmill residues, Melia's innovation lies in processing heterogeneous, non-forest wood sources into high-quality, reliable heating fuel. The company implants small-scale production lines locally near composting platforms to maximize resource utilization and minimize transport distances. Each production line yields approximately 3,000 tonnes of pellets annually from 12,000 tonnes of green waste input, avoiding roughly 4,500 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year by substituting fossil fuel heating. Melia's process includes green waste preprocessing (grinding and screening), material mixing, drying, and pellet pressing. The company received the Greentech Innovation label in 2024 from France's Minister of Ecological Transition, recognizing its contribution to renewable energy transition and decarbonization. Melia emphasizes commitment, transparency, local economic circularity, and forest preservation.
