Middelgrunden Vindmøllelaug I/S is a private cooperative established in May 1997 by wind enthusiasts to produce electricity through wind turbines on Middelgrunden in Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden. The cooperative operates as an interesting partnership (I/S) with member ownership proportional to share purchases (1/40,500 per share). The wind farm consists of 20 turbines arranged in an iconic arch configuration approximately 1.4-3.5 km from Copenhagen's coast. Originally approved in 1999 with an initial permit lasting 25 years, the cooperative received approval to continue operations for an additional 25 years. The turbines have a hub height of approximately 75 metres and rotor diameter of 72 metres. Operations are managed by a small management team with Christine Holm Donatzky serving as administrator and secretary. The cooperative holds regular shareholder meetings and maintains strict financial controls prohibiting debt, with all equipment adequately insured. The facility has become an iconic symbol of Copenhagen's green energy commitment.
