About

Founded in 2020, MODALIS is a government headquartered in Lyon, France specializing in Energy Storage.

MODALIS is a Horizon 2020-funded research project (grant agreement No. 875193) launched in January 2020 with a coordinating role by IFP Energies Nouvelles (Martin Petit). The consortium of 10 international partners develops and validates advanced modelling and simulation toolchains for next-generation battery cells, including Gen3b and Gen4 lithium-ion batteries with potential for solid-state designs. The project integrates extensive measurement data, material characterization at microstructural levels, and innovative modelling methods to enable industry to incorporate new materials and optimize cell design, manufacturing processes, and integration. Key focus areas include electrochemical modelling, thermal management, and manufacturing process optimization. The project runs through 2024 with periodic review meetings and dissemination of results at major industry conferences including the Batteries Event and H2020RTR conferences.
