Nemoship is a renewable energy company specializing in Energy Storage.

Nemoship is a 4-year Horizon Europe Innovation Action project launched in early 2023 focused on electrification of maritime transport. The project develops and demonstrates innovative technologies, methodologies, and guidelines to optimize large battery energy storage systems (BESS) within hybrid and fully electric ships. Key innovations include: (1) a 1 MWh modular containerized BESS for retrofitting hybrid vessels, designed to combine heterogeneous storage units with flexible power conversion architecture; (2) a cloud-based digital platform enabling data-driven exploitation through digital twins, AI-based algorithms, and predictive maintenance; (3) standardized integration methodologies and formal safety assessments for battery system installation across vessel types. The consortium of 11 partners spans the full value chain from research organizations (CEA, VUB MOBI, Cidetec) to maritime operators (Ponant, Solstad, Equinor, Corvus Energy) and technology providers (Siemens, Elkon). Two real-world demonstration vessels are used: Solstad's Normand Sun (retrofitted with 1 MWh modular BESS combined with existing 500 kWh system) and Ponant's Le Commandant Charcot (newly designed hybrid vessel with 4.5 MWh BESS and LNG-electric propulsion). Project objectives include achieving 10% efficiency improvement in ESS exploitation, zero-emission transit during harbor operations, and technology validation at TRL7 for hybrid ships with adaptability assessment for full-electric vessels. Results target standardization of battery interfaces and regulations to reduce integration complexity and costs across all ship types.
