NeuConnect Interconnector is creating the first direct power link between Great Britain and Germany, connecting two of Europe's largest energy markets. The project involves constructing converter stations on the Isle of Grain in Kent and in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, connected by approximately 725km of subsea cables through British, Dutch, and German waters. The interconnector will allow up to 1.4GW of electricity to flow in either direction, capable of powering up to 1.5 million homes. The project is designed to increase energy market integration, competition, security of supply, and efficiency. Integration of renewable energy sources is expected to result in a net reduction of 13 MtCO2 over 25 years. The project received financial close in 2022 and involves £2.4-2.8 billion in private investment.
