Founded in 2019, NordAqua is a co-op headquartered in Turku, Finland specializing in Biomass, Biogas.
NordAqua is a Nordic Center of Excellence consortium comprising 10 Nordic universities and research institutes, 10 industrial partners, and societal stakeholders. The initiative brings together world-leading researchers in photosynthesis, synthetic biology, industrial biotechnology, microbiology, and water management to advance the blue-green bioeconomy. NordAqua develops production platforms for aquatic phototrophic organisms, improves photosynthesis efficiency, and creates synthetic biology tools for cell factories producing fuels and fine chemicals. The five-year programme emphasizes knowledge transfer to industry, cross-border mobility, and fostering science-based decision-making toward a bio-based economy in Nordic countries.
