Nordic Electrofuel is a Norwegian company founded in 2015 by entrepreneur Rolf Bruknapp, specializing in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) through Power-to-Liquid (PtL) technology. The company utilizes renewable electricity, hydrogen, and captured CO₂ from industrial processes to produce carbon-neutral synthetic fuels. Nordic Electrofuel has developed proprietary technology for reverse Water-Gas Shift (rWGS), a key process improving energy efficiency in e-fuel production. The company is constructing its first commercial-scale e-fuel production facility at Herøya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn, with planned commissioning in 2026. The facility has secured EUR 40 million in maximum grant funding from the EU Innovation Fund pilot program, awarded based on scoring 82.5 out of 90 points in a competitive evaluation of over 200 European projects. Nordic Electrofuel has established strategic partnerships with P2X-Europe for fuel commercialization, Hydrom in Oman for large-scale e-SAF development, and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. The company also established Nordic Wind AS in 2017 to develop onshore and offshore wind assets to support renewable power supply, which was later acquired by Fu-Gen in 2024 while maintaining cooperative commercial options.
