About
Founded in 2021, North Ammonia is a private headquartered in Oslo, Norway specializing in Hydrogen, Other.
North Ammonia is a joint venture established in 2021 between Grieg New Energy (50%) and Vergia (50%, owned by Swiss Life Asset Managers) to enable decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors, primarily maritime transport. The company develops and operates green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities. The flagship Arendal project includes an electrolysis plant, ammonia synthesis reactor, and bunkering facility at Eydehavn port, strategically positioned to serve maritime operations in Skagerrak and the Norwegian West Coast. Green ammonia is produced using renewable power, water, and air, providing an energy-dense alternative to hydrogen with superior volumetric energy density. At full capacity, the facility will produce approximately 100,000 metric tons of green ammonia annually, capable of avoiding over 100,000 tons of CO2 equivalents yearly. The plant is planned to be operational in 2028. North Ammonia partners with major maritime companies including Höegh Autoliners and Höegh Evi, and collaborates with Fjord Base on additional production capacity in Florø.
