OPENTUNITY is a Horizon Europe-funded project that aims to support the digital transformation of the European electricity grid by providing innovative methodologies and interoperable software modules. The project deploys twelve innovations across four categories to increase flexibility in prosumer environments and improve grid operations for Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and Transmission System Operators (TSOs). Key innovations include topology identification and state estimation via machine learning, real-time thermal rating for grid congestion management, local flexibility markets, advanced asset management with fraud detection, and blockchain-based decentralized data hubs for secure data sharing. The project is demonstrated through four large-scale complementary pilot sites in Greece, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland, showcasing diverse energy sources, networks, and assets across heterogeneous climatic, geographic, and socio-economic conditions.
