Photoncycle is a renewable energy technology company founded by Bjørn Brandtzaeg that specializes in integrated household energy systems. The Photoncycle System provides year-round electricity, heating, and hot water from solar energy, featuring a proprietary solid-state hydrogen storage technology with capacity up to 10,000 kWh—approximately 20 times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries. The system combines solar modules, an underground energy storage unit, and an energy conversion center. The HESODA research project (led by Photoncycle) develops advanced analytics and optimization solutions using real-time data, forecasting, and intelligent control to manage household energy efficiently. Users can store excess solar energy in summer, utilize stored energy in winter, and sell surplus energy to the grid at peak prices. Installation integrates with existing water-based heating systems and takes approximately one day. The company targets series production in 2027 and is piloting the technology with Norway's largest homebuilder.
