Founded in 2019, Prein is a government headquartered in Tampere, Finland specializing in Solar, Energy Storage.

Prein is the Flagship on Photonics Research and Innovation, a national research platform funded by the Academy of Finland as part of the Flagship Programme. It operates as a collaborative initiative between Tampere University, University of Eastern Finland, Aalto University, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The platform covers the entire value chain from fundamental research to applied research, prototype development, industrial collaboration, and commercialization. Key research areas include solar-driven chemistry for sustainable photovoltaics, quantum photonics, optical materials and structures for energy-efficient applications, and light-based solutions for telecommunications, biomedicine, energy, and environmental monitoring. The initiative aims to enhance the Finnish photonics ecosystem and advance economic growth through technology transfer and start-up development.
