Pxvneo is a joint project between the Borough of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and SoMax, a clean-technology company. It is the first facility in North America to implement hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) at commercial scale for municipal wastewater treatment. The facility transforms organic waste through heat and pressure into renewable energy sources and bioproducts. Phase 1 replaces anaerobic digestion with HTC technology. When fully operational, the facility will be carbon neutral and offset the emissions of all vehicle drivers in the Borough. Future phases may include production of additional bioproducts and acceptance of feedstock from other communities.
