About
REFRESH project is a ngo specializing in Wind.
REFRESH is a European research project funded by the Horizon Europe programme (grant agreement no. 101096858) that aims to develop and demonstrate a novel circular, smart system enabling improved recycling of glass fibre reinforced composites derived from wind turbine dismantling or reblading. The project addresses the challenge of end-of-life wind blade management by developing integrated solutions across the entire value chain. Key innovations include: mechanical recycling processes to produce high-quality components with 80-95% recycled materials; microwave-assisted thermal and solvothermal processes to recover glass fibres and value-added chemicals while preserving up to 90% of mechanical properties; blockchain-based traceability platforms; and advanced dismantling and sorting technologies. The project is led by RINA Consulting and involves a consortium of 11 organizations including research centres, waste management companies, technology centres, and construction firms. Activities are organized into eight work packages covering technology development, business model innovation, digital tools, and market uptake strategies. The project targets potential savings of 52 million tons in virgin raw materials eight years after completion, with applications in automotive, marine, construction, and other industries.
