Relifeproject

Energy Storage

About

Relifeproject is a renewable energy company specializing in Energy Storage.

ReLiFe is a three-year project (2023-2025) funded by EIT RawMaterials with approximately €3.6 million, supplemented by €1.5 million in partner contributions. The initiative develops and demonstrates a robust metallurgical technology for recycling LFP scrap and end-of-life batteries across all sizes. The project progresses through laboratory-scale optimization (2023), semi-pilot validation (2024), and pilot plant demonstration (2025) at Sunlight Group's Xanthi facility in Greece. The pilot plant will operate at 500 tonnes per year capacity. The consortium includes academic institutions (TUBAF, HZDR/HIF), industrial partners (Sunlight Group, Monolithos, Hatch-Küttner, Greenhouse), and technology providers. Key objectives include recovering lithium, iron phosphate, graphite, copper, and aluminum; achieving 95% recovery rate and 99%+ lithium carbonate purity; and establishing the foundation for a commercial-scale industrial plant by 2028 capable of thousands of tonnes annual capacity. Expected outcomes include supply of 1.5% of Europe's lithium demand for battery cell manufacturing and creation of over 1,250 direct and indirect jobs.
