ROBINSON is a Horizon 2020 project aimed at helping decarbonize European islands by developing an integrated, smart, and cost-efficient Energy Management System. The system couples thermal, electrical, and gas networks to optimize utilization of local renewable energy sources. Key technologies include a small gas turbine-based Combined Heat and Power unit, an anaerobic digester with bio-electrochemical systems for converting liquid waste into biomethane, a mobile innovative wind turbine, a gasifier for bio-waste conversion, and hydrogen-related technologies. The system will be demonstrated on the island of Eigerøy, with lab-scale replications planned for Crete and the Western Isles. The modular design enables replication potential across other European islands and remote areas.
