Established through the Dhaka Declaration in 2005 and operationalized on March 1, 2006, the SAARC Energy Centre serves as a platform for officials, experts, academia, environmentalists, and NGOs to advance energy cooperation in South Asia. The Centre converts energy challenges into development opportunities by promoting hydropower development, renewable and alternative energy initiatives, technology transfer, energy conservation, and efficiency improvements. It provides technical inputs to SAARC Working Group meetings and facilitates regional integration of energy strategies.
