Offshore Sensing AS develops and operates Sailbuoy, an innovative autonomous unmanned surface vehicle (USV) designed for long-endurance ocean observation. The platform is powered by wind and solar energy, eliminating reliance on fossil fuels for marine data collection. Sailbuoy supports diverse applications including oceanographic research, climate monitoring, environmental DNA collection, fish stock assessment, wave and weather monitoring, and subsea instrumentation relay. The system uses Iridium satellite communication for real-time data transmission and control. In 2024, Sailbuoy missions completed over 25,000 kilometres and avoided approximately 4,050 tonnes of CO2 emissions compared to conventional vessel operations. Notable achievements include the first Atlantic crossing by an unmanned surface vehicle and deployments across the Arctic, North Atlantic, and global research sites.
