About
SCARLET Project is a renewable energy company specializing in Wind, Solar, Hydrogen.
SCARLET is a four-and-a-half-year EU-funded project coordinated by SINTEF that develops and industrially manufactures superconducting cable systems at gigawatt-level capacity. The project aims to bring superconducting cables to commercial qualification before deployment. Key objectives include: (1) onshore HTS cables connecting remote renewable generation to grids with compact footprints and reduced visual impact; (2) offshore HTS export cables from wind farms to shore, reducing cable costs; (3) MgB₂ cables cooled by liquid hydrogen for combined electricity and hydrogen transport to ports and industries; (4) medium-voltage DC superconducting cable architectures; and (5) superconducting fault current limiters for grid protection. Superconducting cables offer zero transmission losses, 90% less copper usage, and gigawatt-level power in compact footprints. The project is organized into seven work packages covering cable system design, prototype demonstration, offshore architectures, hydrogen integration, system protection, dissemination, and coordination.
