About
Founded in 2023, Sco2op-tes is a government headquartered in Genoa, Italy specializing in Energy Storage.
Sco2op-tes is a Horizon Europe research and innovation project (grant agreement No 101136000) led by the University of Genoa. The project develops and validates advanced Power-to-Heat-to-Power (P2H2P) energy storage technology based on supercritical CO2 (sCO2) cycles up to TRL5. The solution integrates thermally-integrated pumped thermal energy storage with molten salt thermal energy storage, leveraging industrial and power plant waste heat to enhance round-trip efficiency. The pilot plant is hosted at the Tirreno Power Combined Cycle facility in Vado Ligure, Italy. The technology aims to enable long-duration, large-scale renewable energy storage to facilitate RES integration in EU energy systems, enhance fossil-based power plant flexibility, and support industrial grid connections.
