LIFE SeaForest is a EU-funded project dedicated to the conservation and restoration of Posidonia oceanica meadows, a critical marine plant that serves as a carbon sink in the Mediterranean. The project operates across three Italian National Parks: La Maddalena, Asinara, and Cilento. Core activities include developing rigorous methodologies for quantifying carbon avoidance and removal through seagrass meadow restoration, implementing innovative habitat restoration techniques, designing eco-compatible anchoring systems to reduce seabed impacts, and advancing blue carbon certification standards. The project brings together scientific institutions (CMCC, University of Tuscia, University of Genova, University of Sassari), research centers, and marine protected areas to scale blue carbon solutions and integrate marine ecosystems into European climate mitigation strategies.
