About
Founded in 2023, Ship-aH2oy is a ngo specializing in Hydrogen.
Ship-aH2oy is a Horizon Europe-funded research and innovation action aimed at decarbonizing the maritime shipping sector. The project develops and demonstrates a scalable, modular LOHC-based fuel cell power system (1 MW modules) for zero-emission vessel operations. The system uses benzyltoluene as the LOHC to safely store and transport green hydrogen at ambient conditions, eliminating the need for high-pressure or cryogenic storage. Hydrogen is released onboard via a catalytic LOHC release unit directly into fuel cells for electricity generation. A six-month demonstration is scheduled on an existing commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) owned by Edda Wind, supporting offshore wind operations. The project addresses maritime decarbonization challenges and assesses replication potential for larger vessels and other shipping segments including ROPAX ferries.
