About
Founded in 2022, SOLARX is a ngo specializing in Solar, Hydrogen, Energy Storage.
SOLARX is a three-year research and innovation project coordinated by the University of Lleida and funded by the European Commission's Horizon Europe programme. The project brings together nine partners from six countries across academia, research organizations, and private companies. SOLARX develops a novel dispatchable renewable energy system that synergistically produces heat, electricity, and hydrogen from concentrated solar resources in a single integrated facility. The system addresses the challenges of intermittent renewable energy by incorporating three key technological elements: a smart AI-based solar resource management algorithm, a high-efficiency concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) receiver with targeted 45.9% cell efficiency, and a solar-based hydrogen receiver using concentrated sunlight to convert methane into hydrogen. The project aims to demonstrate technical, economic, environmental, and social value at laboratory scale, with key performance improvements including LCOE reduction of 9-18%, COVE improvement of 15-23%, and ROI improvement of 15%.
