About
Founded in 2018, Solarzac is a renewable energy company headquartered in Le Cros, France specializing in Solar.
Solarzac is an agrivoltaic (agri-solar) project located on the Calmels estate in Le Cros, Hérault, France. Developed by Arkolia, an integrated energy company specializing in renewable energy, the project combines a 26.8 MWc ground-mounted solar installation with sheep farming operations. The installation is divided into multiple islands to minimize landscape impact and includes both fixed and sun-tracking solar structures positioned at heights accommodating grazing livestock. The project produces approximately 64.5 GWh annually and provides grazing pasture for up to 400 sheep across 32 hectares. The initiative emerged from a 2019-2024 public consultation process involving local stakeholders and was officially filed with Hérault prefecture in May 2024, with service completion targeted for 2026. Beyond energy generation, the project supports local agricultural development, environmental preservation within the Parc Naturel Régional des Grands Causses, and community engagement through structured dialogue mechanisms.
