Founded in 2020, Sowhatproject is a ngo headquartered in Genova, Italy specializing in Energy Storage.

SO WHAT is a collaborative research project funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No. 847097) comprising 20 partners from 9 European countries. The project develops an integrated software tool designed to support industries and energy utilities in auditing industrial processes, planning, and simulating waste heat and cold valorisation systems. The tool enables selection, simulation, and comparison of alternative waste heat and cold exploitation technologies to cost-effectively balance local forecasted heat and cooling demand, integrating renewable energy sources where applicable. The software is available in two versions: a free online version for quick understanding and guidance, and a desktop-based commercial version for detailed technical and economic analysis. The project validates the tool through real industrial test cases across different sectors and countries, demonstrating techno-economic feasibility and ensuring scalability and replicability of results.
