About

Founded in 2016, STORE&GO is a ngo specializing in Hydrogen, Energy Storage.

STORE&GO was a 48-month European research initiative bringing together 27 partner organizations to advance power-to-gas (PtG) technology as a solution for long-term, large-scale energy storage. The project operated three demonstration sites showcasing innovative methanation concepts adapted to different climates, grid types, and renewable energy mixes. Core activities included techno-economic analysis, lifecycle carbon footprint assessment, regulatory framework evaluation, social acceptance studies, and training programmes. The research demonstrated that PtG enables seasonal storage via existing gas infrastructure, supports renewable energy dispatch, and can defossilize heating and transport sectors. Key findings showed that 21 of 55 low-carbon EU 2050 scenarios support synthetic methane capacity of 40-200 GW, though market deployment faces regulatory, investment, and policy barriers requiring structural energy system reform.
