The Supergen Energy Networks Hub is a 9-million-pound EPSRC-funded collaborative research program that convenes over 700 stakeholders from industry, academia, government, and civil society. The hub conducts interdisciplinary research to transform energy networks into drivers of net zero transition. Key research areas include integration of large-scale renewable energy and low-carbon sources, digitalization of multi-energy networks, risk and resilience analysis, heat network decarbonization, smart grid technologies, energy storage optimization, and just transition frameworks addressing vulnerable populations. The hub operates through three interconnected missions targeting net-zero whole systems futures, regional and local energy networks transformation, and large-scale renewable and low-carbon energy integration. Research is organized through multiple work packages addressing digitalization, risk quantification, commercial frameworks, and stakeholder engagement.
