Uvera is a Polish biotechnology startup founded in 2018 that develops innovative UV protection products using microorganism cultivation technology. The company has created a natural UV protective ingredient derived from extremophilic microorganisms that protects against the full spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC radiation. The production process is environmentally sustainable, consuming CO2 and producing oxygen and fertile biomass as by-products. Uvera's solution addresses the environmental crisis caused by conventional chemical sunscreens, which accumulate in marine ecosystems, damage coral reefs, and pose health risks including endocrine disruption and potential DNA damage. The company received a EUR 2.5 million grant from the European Innovation Council and has won multiple awards including the EIT Health InnoStars Award 2019, MIT Enterprise Forum CEE Audience Award 2021, and recognition as the best biotech startup in Europe by Polish startups rankings.
