WeertEnergie is a non-profit cooperative association of residents from the Weert region in Limburg, Netherlands, dedicated to realizing affordable, locally-owned, and sustainable energy. Founded in July 2013 through a citizen initiative, the cooperative operates without profit motive and focuses on generating and distributing local green electricity alongside energy conservation efforts. The organization has grown to over 550 members who collectively invest in and benefit from renewable energy projects. WeertEnergie operates multiple facilities including Windpark Weert (three turbines commissioned in 2022), Zonnepark Altweerterheide, and Zonnepark Leveroysedijk (opened October 2023). The cooperative provides free advisory services through the Warm Wonen Winkel, an info center for sustainability, offering guidance on energy transitions and efficiency. Members pay €20 annually for membership and have voting rights in project decisions and profit allocation. The organization aims to contribute substantially to Weert's energy needs by 2040 and emphasizes transparency, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.
