X1 Wind is a Barcelona-based floating offshore wind developer founded in 2017 by Carlos Casanovas and Alex Raventos. It develops the PivotBuoy, a single point mooring system combined with a small tension-leg platform, in a downwind configuration that allows the platform to weathervane passively. The design removes the traditional tower, aims to reduce platform weight and mooring footprint, and can be assembled onshore and towed to site with small to medium vessels. The company is developing the X90 and X150 commercial platforms through the EU-funded X1 ACCELERATOR project, after validating the technology through tank tests and the X30 part-scale prototype in the Canary Islands.
