Zonnepark Middelsee is a solar energy project located near Leeuwarden, Netherlands, developed by Solar Proactive and Gutami Solar. The park is designed to generate renewable electricity for approximately 25,000 households while serving as a research site for Wageningen University and Dairy Campus. The project emphasizes ecological integration through approximately 8.5 hectares of ecological margins and three dedicated zones for biodiversity enhancement. The design explores how large-scale solar energy production can be combined with agricultural production and grassland farming. Key features include habitat restoration for insects, birds, and small mammals, permaculture research in collaboration with Frijlân and Permaculture Friesland, and an educational walking and cycling area. Local participation is organized by Energiek Goutum cooperative. The project is currently in phase 2 of its five-phase development plan.
