Alternativa Joven is a non-profit association based in the Pino Montano neighbourhood of Seville, Spain. It works with and for local residents, with a focus on young people, and has operated since 1993. Its work aims to give young people tools for integral development within society and to prevent addictions, HIV/AIDS and other forms of social exclusion. It also serves people in vulnerable situations, people at risk of social exclusion and people with addiction problems, including people in the Sevilla I prison, where it trains inmates as health agents on STI prevention. Its activities include youth workshops, addiction and STI prevention programmes, volunteer training, legal and penitentiary advice, socio-occupational integration, a youth magazine, and community events such as charity markets, sports championships and music events. Support is offered through donations, a symbolic monthly membership fee and volunteering.
