The Associação Portuguesa de Apoio à Vítima (APAV) is a non-profit private social solidarity institution founded in 1990 that provides free and confidential support to victims of crime and violence across Portugal. It offers emotional, legal, psychological, social and practical support through around 87 community services, including victim support offices, safe rooms, shelters and a national helpline, with particular focus on children and young people, older people, women and minority groups. APAV also conducts research, public opinion studies, awareness and prevention programmes, and advocates for victims' rights at national and European level.
