APIS India Onlus ODV is an Italian volunteer association founded in 1997 in Rome. It supports social development projects in southern India, mainly in Tamil Nadu, and in northern Sri Lanka, working in collaboration with Salesian missions. Projects target orphaned and poor children, street youth, women, elderly people, lepers and people from marginalised communities, and include school buildings, kitchens and dining halls, water and sanitation facilities, housing for children with AIDS or leprosy, vocational training centres and agricultural support. Projects are identified, approved and monitored through annual trips by members and are funded through donations, membership, charity markets, sponsorship and the Italian 5x1000 tax allocation.
